Things to do
On the ridge, around the lakes, and a little further.
Most guests do very little, and that’s the right answer. For everyone else, here’s what’s close, and what we can take you to.
On the ridge
The rituals, and the forest around them.
Nothing here is compulsory.
The Sunset Sit
Everyone at the edge of the ridge while the valley goes gold. Phones optional.
Fire & Folklore
The fire after dark, dinner if you’ve asked for it, and whatever stories the gaon has that week.
Gaon Walk
Up through Jangalia Gaon with someone who grew up there and knows which turn has the view.
Harela
In July, plant a sapling with the village for the Kumaoni festival of green.
On your own
Walks and guides for exploring alone.
We’re putting together simple guides you can take out on your own. Until they’re printed, ask us and we’ll walk you through the routes.
Forest bathing
Slow, unhurried time among the pines around the camp. Leave the phone, follow the path, sit when you want to.
Trails from the camp
Forest paths start at the edge of the ridge. Ask for the routes we walk ourselves, and how long each takes.
Birding
Early mornings on the ridge and in the forest are the best time. Bring binoculars.
Sky watching
Clear nights, especially in autumn and winter, with very little light around. Stars you forgot existed.
Around Bhimtal
The lakes, as day trips.
Most guests plan one and end up staying on the ridge. Both are there if you want them.
Bhimtal Lake
About 10 km, 25 minutes by car.
Naukuchiatal
An easy day trip, a little further along the lakes.
Nainital
A day trip by car; go early, it gets busy.
Adventure activities
Parasailing, paragliding and boating run around the lakes in season through local operators. Ask us who we’d trust.
Adventure with DugDug
Further out, with us.
Days we can take you on from the ridge. Tell us what you’re up for and we’ll plan it with you.
Camping at Heda Khan
A night further into the hills under canvas. Ask us for dates and what to bring.
Food by the river
A long, slow meal cooked by the water, a drive from the camp.
Your own plan
Tell us what you like doing, and we’ll draw up the days.
