Seasons on the ridge

Four seasons, one quiet ridge.

What the weather, the views and the road are like through the year at DugDug Bhimtal, and when to ask us before you book.

March to June

Spring into summer. Clear air, long evenings.

The ridge at its easiest: warm days, cool nights and the drive up at its best.

The days

Warm and bright; the valley is at its sharpest in the mornings.

The nights

Cool enough for the fire and a blanket.

The road

Dry and straightforward, driven slowly on the last stretch.

Book

Long weekends go first; they’re peak nights.

July to September

Monsoon. Rain on canvas.

The quiet season, priced like it: most monsoon nights aren’t peak.

The sound

Rain on canvas is the best sleep you’ll have all year. You’re warm and dry under it.

The view

Some mornings the valley is cloud; some mornings it clears in an hour.

The leeches

July has them. Long socks, salt, and a look after walks. Dogs too.

The road

Slower and wetter. Message us the day before and we’ll tell you how it is. Officially closed means full credit, however late you tell us.

Harela

The Kumaoni festival of green in July. Guests staying around it can plant a sapling with the village.

September to November

Autumn. The clearest skies of the year.

After the rains: washed air, long views and cold, starry nights.

The days

Crisp and clear; the best light for the valley.

The nights

Getting cold; the heaters come on and the fire gets longer.

Festive season

Some October and November dates are peak nights. Ask early.

December to February

Winter. A fire every evening.

Cold nights, often sunny days, and stars you forgot existed.

Warm tents

Heaters in every tent, extra blankets and hot water, always.

The fire

Every evening; Fire & Folklore runs longer in winter.

Snow

Don’t come for it. Come for the fire and the clear sky.

Christmas & New Year

A quiet one, on purpose. 24 December to 2 January is peak, and goes first.
