Getting here
It’s a drive. That’s rather the point.
Seven hours from Delhi, however you come: by car, on two wheels, or by train and taxi. The last stretch is slow for everyone. That’s where the quiet starts.
By road
Delhi to the ridge, leg by leg.
There are two roads up. Take the one through Bhimtal, not the hairpins.
Delhi to DugDug Bhimtal
Car, motorbike or taxi
We send a pin and a short clip of the final turn when you book. Within an hour and unsure? Call; someone will talk you in.
Pick your way up
However you come, we’ll meet you.
Nobody needs to arrive any particular way. Here’s what each way looks like.
By car
Fine in a normal car, driven slowly on the last few kilometres. Free parking on site.
On two wheels
Motorbike or bicycle, the Bhimtal road is a good ride. Parking inside the gate, and the Last Kick below.
By train
To Kathgodam, 40 km away, then about an hour and a half by taxi. Ask us for a driver we trust.
By bus
Buses from Delhi reach Haldwani and Bhimtal. From there it’s a taxi; there’s no bus to the gate.
With the dog
Dogs travel free and stay free. Bring water for the drive and a lead for the last stretch.
Arriving late
Tell us and someone will wait up. Try not to drive the last stretch after dark.
The Last Kick
Arrive on two wheels, motor or pedal.
Anyone who gets here on two wheels gets a rider rate and parking inside the gate. Ask when you book.
At the gate there’s a register where people write down the way they came and what they came on. Car, bike, train or on foot from the village, every route goes in.
Coming as a group, a riding club, cycling friends or a road-trip crew? The Whole Camp takes up to eleven.
Asked before booking
The honest answers.
How far is DugDug Bhimtal from Delhi?
295 km, about seven hours by road. Leave early; the last stretch is better in daylight.
What’s the nearest railway station?
Kathgodam, 40 km away, about an hour and a half by taxi. Ask us and we’ll suggest a driver we trust.
Can a normal car make it?
Yes, via the Bhimtal road, driven slowly on the last few kilometres. We send a pin and a clip of the final turn when you book.
Is there public transport to the gate?
No. Buses and trains get you to Haldwani or Kathgodam; a taxi does the rest.
Where do we park?
Free parking on site. Motorbikes and bicycles go inside the gate.
Can we arrive after dark?
Arriving late is fine if you tell us, and someone will wait up. But try not to drive the last stretch in the dark; it’s unlit.
Other ways to come
Same ridge, different reasons.
