The Slow Weekend
Leave Friday. Don’t move again till Sunday.
Two nights on a ridge above Bhimtal, seven hours from Delhi, with nothing planned on purpose.
Friday to Sunday
A weekend, roughly.
Nothing here is compulsory, least of all the itinerary.
The Slow Weekend
Two nights
Weekend means Friday and Saturday nights. Long weekends and festivals are peak; the quote marks them.
Why not Nainital?
Everyone else is stuck on Mall Road.
On a long weekend, the roads into Nainital fill up and the lake is shoulder to shoulder. We’re in the same hills, and none of that reaches the ridge.
It’s a drive. That’s rather the point.

Asked before booking
The honest answers.
How far is it from Delhi?
295 km, about seven hours by road. Leave early; the last stretch is better in daylight.
Can we come without a car?
Yes. Take a train to Kathgodam, 40 km away, then a taxi. There’s no public transport to the gate; ask us and we’ll suggest a driver.
Is it crowded on long weekends?
There are three tents. It can’t be. Book early though: long weekends are peak nights and go first.
What is there to do?
Very little, on purpose. The Sunset Sit, the fire, a village walk if you want one. Most people come back with a clearer head.
Other ways to come
Same ridge, different reasons.
